In 1999, the quirky name and hip design began with Richard and Dwight. These two front-runners transformed a little brick building in the middle of a Charlotte mill neighborhood into The Smelly Cat Coffeehouse.
Next came community-minded business woman, Jolly Dale, who knit together a loyal base of Smelly Cat coffeehouse regulars which still lasts to this day.
In 2006, Jolly turned the keys over to the current owner, Cathy Tuman. Armed with a solid base of quirky style, a name to remember and strong community support, Smelly Cat’s commitment to community and the pursuit for quality coffee for its loyal customers continues.
Located in the NoDa arts district, we’ve always followed a people first approach.
From seed to cup, roasting coffee is as much an art as it is a science.
